QUESTION: Why Are We Made Imperfect? Read Why
Answer:
The truth is, God did not make angels and man imperfect. God created them to have a choice. And that is where the opportunity to choose against God entered in.
To really understand this, we must begin by examining God’s desire in creation. God, who is full of mercy, created man and angels with the ability to make choices. His reason? So pure love could exist between Himself and His creation. Love is pure only when it is birthed out of a choice that is made by one’s own free will.
Robots could not accomplish this. God did not desire to create beings that could only do what they were programmed to do, nor did He desire to make slaves out of any creature. God gave us a will as part of His goodness, knowing the potential for love and sin is there. However, God did not create evil. God created the system of sowing and reaping.
This system of sowing and reaping is addressed in Galatians 6:7-8: “Don’t be misled—you cannot mock the justice of God. You will always harvest what you plant. Those who live only to satisfy their own sinful nature will harvest decay and death from that sinful nature. But those who live to please the Spirit will harvest everlasting life from the Spirit.” God has made the law of sowing (choosing an action), as well as the law of reaping (the results of an action), and evil and bad results will come when men choose sin.
This leads us to see how the appearance of imperfection occurs. Sin is disobeying the will of God. The first sin was committed by an angel. Lucifer (or Satan) chose to exalt himself over God (Isaiah 14:13-14). Satan reaped the consequences of the actions he sowed when he was cast from heaven.
But being cast from heaven didn’t stop Satan. He tempted Adam with disobedience, and Adam chose to act contrary to God’s will. Romans 5:12 says, “Wherefore, as by one man [Adam] sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned.” Man abused his right of choice and has reaped the consequences of his sin—spiritual death, or separation from God.
The good news for man is he has been given another choice. God, who is rich in mercy, made a way for man to be redeemed from the consequences of sin. Romans 6:23 says, “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord.”
Everyone has a choice set before them. We have the choice to accept or reject the sacrifice Jesus made for us on the cross.
The choice is simple…and the rewards of choosing life are great!
