NUTRITION HEALTH: Naturally Healthy Foods

There are many philosophies on what is healthy and what is not.  Even those considered to be “nutritional experts” differ greatly, depending on which school of thought they were trained.  Once you have found a way of eating (not a fad diet) that works for you, follow it.  Just don’t make it a doctrine under the banner of “salvation,” and don’t let the enemy use you to condemn others because of it.

Just as spiritual food is to nourish the Body of Christ so that we may grow up into Him in all things, physical food is meant to grow healthy bodies, not simply to please the taste buds (that’s being ruled by our senses).

To help empower you along your walk to a healthy body, we have gathered together some of the scriptures that deal directly with the natural foods we should eat.  To learn what the Bible has to say about certain foods simply choose a category from the menu.  We pray that these resources help you to build a healthy body and temple for Christ.

1. Whole Grains Isaiah 28:26-29 “…Grain for bread is crushed. Indeed, he does not continue to thresh it forever.  Because the wheel of his cart and his  horses eventually damage it, he does not  thresh it longer…” (NASB)
Psalm 81:16 “He should have fed them also with the finest of the wheat…”
Ezekiel 4:9 “But as for you, take wheat, barley, beans,  lentils, millet and spelt, put them in one  vessel and make them into bread for yourself” (NASB)
Exodus 16:15, 31 “It is manna… This is the bread which the LORD hath given you to eat…it was like coriander seed, white; and the taste of it was like wafers made with honey.”

2. Seeds and Nuts Genesis 1:11-12 “Then God said, ‘Let the earth sprout vegetation, plants yielding seed, and fruit trees on the earth bearing fruit after their kind with seed in them and it was so…and God saw that it was good.” (NASB)
Genesis 43:11 “take some of the best products of the land…a little balm and a little honey aromatic gum and myrrh, pistachio nuts and almonds.” (NASB)
Matthew 3:4 “clothing was woven from camel’s hair and he wore a leather belt; his food was locusts and wild honey.” (LB) (Locusts were supposedly carob pods; carob is a member of the legume family).

3. Fruits   Numbers 13:23 “And they came unto the brook of Eshcol, and cut down from thence a branch with one cluster of grapes, and they bare it between two upon a staff and they brought of the pomegranates, and of the figs.”
Numbers 13:27 “they told him, and said, We came unto the land whither thou sentest us, and surely it floweth with milk and honey; and this is the fruit of it.”
I Samuel 30:12 “They gave him a piece of fig cake and two clusters of raisins, and he ate; then his spirit revived” (NASB) Fruit has always been used in the Bible to describe something very good.
Revelation 22:2 “In the midst of the street of it, and on either side of the river, was there the tree of life, which bare twelve manner of fruits, and yielded her fruit every month: and the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations.”
Ezekiel 47:12 “And by the river…shall grow all trees for meat, whose leaf shall not fade, neither shall the fruit thereof be consumed: it shall bring forth new fruit according to his months, because their waters they issued out of the sanctuary: and the fruit thereof shall be for meat, and the leaf thereof for medicine.”
Psalm 1:3 “And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.”
John 15:16 “Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain…”
4. Vegetables   Daniel 1:12-16 “Please test your servants for ten days, and let us be given some vegetables to eat (pulse in KJV) and water to drink (NASB). …And at the end of ten days their countenances appeared fairer and fatter in flesh than all the children which did eat the portion of the king’s meat.”
5. Herbs Psalm 104: 14-15 “He causeth the grass to grow for the cattle, and herb for the service of man: that he may bring forth food out of the earth…and oil to make his face to shine, and bread which strengtheneth man’s
heart.”
