Q &A : Should I Quit My Job For The Ministry?

Answer:

Sometimes it can appear that ministry would be more successful if it could receive the full-time attention a job does not allow. But the decision to quit your job and live by faith should be preceded by much prayer. And the factor often missing in this consideration is this: You can live by faith while holding your job, too!

So our advice is that unless God Himself has given you definite instructions to quit, be patient and continue working until you get that clear direction to quit in order to go into full-time ministry.

Now that does not mean you shouldn’t believe to be supported by your ministry. You have a scriptural right to do that. Jesus and the Apostle Paul taught that those who preach the gospel should live by the gospel (1 Corinthians 9:14; Galatians 6:6; 1 Timothy 5:18).

But until God directs you, don’t quit your job. At the same time, keep your faith working. You will find that many great men and women of God are led to continue working and pursue business as they minister. The apostle Paul, for example, was a tentmaker during a great majority of his ministry (Acts 18:3). With your faith at work, God will work in your behalf—for there is no failure in God!
