RIGHT ATTITUDE TO FASTING
Matthew 6 vs
16.¶ “Moreover when you fast, don’t be like the hypocrites, with sad faces. For they disfigure their faces, that they may be seen by men to be fasting. Most certainly I tell you, they have received their reward.~ |WEB|
AS LONG as there is a right way to pray so is it for fasting. As vital as fasting is you can’t do it anyhow to get the desired results. First of all, you do not fast to appear to people that you know how to fast. Jesus addressed that attitude to hypocrites who love to seek honour and praises from people. Fasting done with this motive doesn’t reach the heart of God. Secondly, the disposition of your heart and mind matters a lot when fasting. The Bible says a heartfelt prayer of the righteous man makes tremendous power available (James 5:16). So we can say same for fasting; a heartfelt fasting avails much.
Do it wholeheartedly as unto God, not to men; and God will rightly reward you.Cherished one, fasting is a sacred practice for serious Christians who desire uncommon exploits in life. Thirdly, spend quality time in God’s word and prayer when fasting. Prayer and fasting open up your spirit to absorb God’s word studied. It has a way to humble your flesh. Fasting conditions your spirit, mind and body to quickly respond to the signals of the Spirit. It puts you in a position to be empowered and sharpen your spiritual sensitivity.
More so, when fasting it’s always best to be alone in a place of solitude and pour your heart to God (Matthew 6:6). Finally, when fasting, prepare to be obedient to the instructions and promptings God will give you. Cherished one, have you fasted this year? Don’t spend all your time on food; set your heart to fast and pray sometimes, not only when when you need something from God but do it as part of the process of your spiritual growth. Until Jesus comes, the bridegroom shouldn’t stop fasting. Your reward is assured from the Lord during this fellowship. The grace our Lord Jesus Christ be with you always.
PRAYER
Dear Glorious Father , thank You for the gracious revelation given me. My attitude to fasting is influenced by your Word and Spirit within me. I am getting immense results as I engage in this spiritual exercise in Jesus Name. Amen!
