ESSENTIALS OF ETERNAL LIFE

27.■” Do not work for food that perishes but for food that lasts for eternal life, which the Son of Man will give you, because God the Father has set his seal on him.”~《ISV》

AFTER Jesus performed the miracle of feeding more than five thousand people with five loaves and two fishes, something interesting happened the next day. The same people sought after Jesus again. But Jesus who knew the depth of men’s heart said to them “Truly, I tell all of you emphatically, you are looking for me, not because you saw signs, but because you ate the loaves and were completely satisfied” (John 6:26). So according to Jesus, the miracle wasn’t even their yardstick for seeking Him but the food they ate and got satisfied.

So Jesus confronted their behaviour and admonished them in our opening text to seek for food that lasts to eternal life, not the food that perishes. Is He saying that food is not important ? Not at all. Here, He is talking about priority, putting first things first; and also the driving force to seek Jesus should not be for only physical or material things but rather things edifying unto eternal life. People labour and toil for things that perish with time but are not willing to labour and toil for the things of the Kingdom such as spiritual growth and maturity, righteousness, love, holiness, power etc.

So Jesus also meant that “if you will seek for me, let it be MORE of the things that concern eternal life or spiritual things. Thus, the life of God that I have brought to mankind” (John 10:10). Eternal life as the God kind of life comes as a package. *Therefore you have to seek and pursue to enjoy the full package of this life in Christ.* Don’t toil and labour for only material blessings; Jesus said, seek Him for things that are greater than these (Mat 6:33). Seek for the things that will nourish and beautify your spiritual life. These are the essentials or necessities of eternal life. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you always.

PRAYER
Glorious Father, thank You for the word of Your grace which is always able to build me up and give me inheritance. I seek for the expansion of Your Kingdom and righteousness. Yes, I prioritize the things of the Kingdom. The eternal life You gave me is my eternal focus. I refuse to focus on less important matters. I ask and receive more grace and strength to labour for the food which always last to eternal life in the Name of Jesus Christ. Amen !
