OUR focal text revealed Jesus’ reaction to money changers in the Temple of God. *He condemned their behaviour and unveiled His Temple as a place of prayer and sound teaching, not merchandise.* Some have erroneously used Jesus’ attitude here to teach people that God is against money in the Church. Some refer to this portion of scripture when they see people or pastors calling for money offerings in the Church.
However, beloved, Jesus’ attitude didn’t mean He hated money. It didn’t mean He was against every financial transactions in the Church. In fact money is used as part of serving God. But Jesus was against turning the temple of God as a place for merchandise for their selfish interest or gains. Jesus is teaching us that spiritual activities must to be the PRIORITY of His temple, not material stuff. Therefore you can go on and give in the Church. The Church needs your money for Kingdom advancement.
It is vital to note that giving for Kingdom advancement is different from doing merchandise in the Church. Merchandise is for your selfish interest, giving is for Kingdom interest. Your money offerings and tithes help the Church to run the various activities for Kingdom advancement. Givers are therefore blessed by God, but those who make His temple a place of merchandise are greatly despised by Him. In all, Jesus was instilling ORDER and discipline in the Temple. The rice grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you always.
PRAYER
_Dear Faithful Father, I thank You for the truths revealed in Your word. I promote whatever You promote and despise whatever You despise. I pray for the grace to be a giver to advance kingdom business. I refuse to engage in any carnal merchandise in Your Temple. My giving is blessing lives in the Kingdom Jesus Name. Amen !_
