BLESSED greetings, Cherished one. As a Christian, part of the determinants of your spiritual maturity stems from knowing the role God plays in your life and the role you are supposed to play. God always plays His role perfectly and effectively without making mistakes. Many have become frustrated trying to use prayer to make God do what He has already done or what He is not supposed to do. In our focal text, the Apostle said one of his success secrets in the Christian life is constantly keeping and bringing his body into submission. This he does by using the ability of Christ in him (Philippians 4:13).

That means he recognises his personal responsibility as a believer. The previous verse says “That is the way I run, with a clear goal in mind. That is the way I fight, not like someone shadow boxing.” (1 Corinthians 9:26). So he consciously decided to keep his body under subjection. He made it his personal and clear goal in his mind. He did not leave it to chance or God to do it. Keeping and bringing your body into subjection also means disciplining your body. In other words, you bring your body into submission. Thus, you ought to consciously subdue your body and refuse to fulfill its carnal appetites.

The body has certain natural desires or appetites which when not subdued will lead you to ungodliness. Our focal text unveils that your failure to discipline your body can make you a castaway after preaching or receiving the word. To be a castaway means failing to stand a test and becoming unapproved and rejected as a counterfeit. Beloved, when it is time to pray and fast, discipline your body to do so. Do not allow too much sleep, carnal excuses and procrastination stop you from engaging in personal spiritual responsibilities. Discipline your body and bring to the obedience of Christ by the power that works in you (Ephesians 3:16-20). Take charge of your body and give it the needed discipline, self-control, direction and godliness. The rich grace of our Lord Jesus Christ abounds towards you always.

PRAYER
Precious Lord and Father, I thank You for the revelation in Your word which makes me wise in the affairs of life. By the power of Your grace and Spirit, I consciously keep my body and bring it into godly discipline. I humbly submit to the Christ who strengthens me to do all things. I refuse to be a castaway because Your grace helps me stand the test of time in Jesus Blessed Name. Amen!
