GRACIOUS greetings, Cherished one. Apostle Paul’s epistle to the Church in Corinth is a powerful truth revealed to the body of Christ. He used chapter twelve to teach on spiritual gifts. The last verse of chapter twelve says “But earnestly desire the best gifts. And yet I show you a more excellent way.” (1 Corinthians 12:31). Right away, he introduced the chapter of love. *So love is the excellent way to earnestly desire and even operate in spiritual gifts.* Yesterday, we learned that love is not wicked, but patient and kind.
Today, our focal text unveils another glorious nature or expressions of love. And it says, love does not envy. This means that love does not boil over with jealousy. *Thus, love cannot be enthroned on the seat of envy or jealousy.* Envy, as used here, is having a warmth of feeling against someone. Envy is having a negative zeal against someone or what someone owes. This is synonymous to being covetous. So the Christian walking in love should not be dominated by jealous or covet whatever rightly belongs to his neighbour. Love feels content of what has been rightly or lawfully given.
So whenever you see envy or jealousy at work, it is a sign that love is not in operation. Another nature of love says “love does not parade itself”. In other words, love is not boastful or vainglorious. This kind of boast is one engineered from arrogance and pride. Lastly, love is not easily puffed up. Thus, love does not display itself haughtily. Simply put, love is not continuously bragging or “showing off”. Yes, love does not bear one’s self loftily. Beloved, these are some characteristics of love. Keep on fellowshipping with the Holy Spirit and you will continually manifest the nature of love in your world. The rich grace of our Lord Jesus abounds towards you always.
I DECLARE
The love of God envelopes my lifestyle. I refuse to be impatient. I refuse to allow envy to dominate my life. I refuse to parade myself in arrogance. I refuse to brag unnecessarily. I walk in love. The God kind of love moderates my thought and actions in Jesus Lovely Name. Amen !
