GOD’S word is blessed and powerful in itself. It has the ability to produce what it talks about. Yes, the word works like a seed and it is result-oriented. God always does His part in that His ability is already seen in His word to produce results. *However, the recipient of the word also has a part to play if he wants to see the manifestation or fruitfulness of the word in his life.* In other words, you must always corporate with the terms of God’s word to bring it to pass in your life. So Jesus illustrated this reality using the parable of the sower who went forth to sow seeds.
Jesus explained that the seed is God’s word. *And every word-seed planted needs a good ground or heart to produce good results.* So our focal text reveals the thorny ground or heart that receives the word and the results thereof. He said such folks hear the word of God alright. So they have no problem with hearing. In fact, hearing is one of their advantages. However, hearing isn’t enough. They are not able to put to work what they hear. Why? They allow some factors such as the cares of this world, deceitfulness of riches to choke the word they have heard making them unfruitful.
The cares of this world refers to the worries and anxieties of this age (the worldly system). And these serve as distractions to fruitfulness of the word in their lives. Our Lord has admonished us not allow worry or anxiety to ruin our lives (Matt 6:25). But this group welcomes them. *They trust in the voice of worry than the voice of the word they heard.* They hear the word and they doubt the ability of the word to produce results. The devil will always tempt the word of God you hear. *Therefore, you must resist the worries, anxieties with prayer and supplication in faith (Phil 4:6).* The cares of this world is a great distraction to fulfilling God’s word in your life; so fight it and refuse to be distracted. The rich grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you always.
PRAYER
_Precious Generous Father who gives me all things to richly enjoy. I thank You for granting unto me an increased measure the spirit of understanding to do Your word. I refuse to allow distractions in terms of worry and anxiety to choke the word I hear. I rather active faith and prayer into the word I hear for fruitful results in Jesus Mighty Name. Amen!_
