APOSTLE James describes the tongue as a world. He reveals how powerful it can be (James 3:1; Jos 1:8, Rom 10:9,10). You either use it to your advantage or disadvantage. Many people treat this lightly because they are not conscious of the impact it brings on their lives. Many of them have been ensnared by the words of their tongue. *Whether you are conscious of it or not, it’s either working for you or against you.*
However, as a child of the most high God, you must let it work in your favour. The tongue has two main directions. One, it can direct you into life ( prosperity, health, joy etc) or death (failure, curses, evil etc). 1 Peter 3:10 enjoins “For the person who wants to love life and see good days must keep his tongue from evil and his lips from speaking deceit.” Thus your tongue is a major determinant if you want to love life and see good days. The responsibility lies on you to “KEEP your tongue from speaking evil and deceit”. “Deceit” means any ‘treachery’ or lies or fallacy that contradicts God’s counsel. “Keeping your tongue” is not the responsibility of God, it’s yours.
You can keep your tongue only if you guard your heart and renew your mind consistently through God’s word (Prv 4:23; Rom 12:2). Feed your heart with God’s word and your tongue will speak in line with it. Beloved, speak life in consistency, not occasionally. The word is nigh you, in your mouth and heart (Rom 10:8); speak and release the power of God over situations. It will change the direction of things to your favour. Start now and enjoy the fruits thereof. The rich grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you always. Amen!
