FAVOURED greetings to you, Cherished one. Apostle James is addressing a profound truth with our focal text. He tells us the source of all good and perfect gifts is God. Since God is good and perfect, that nature of Him envelopes the gifts He gives. Yea, God does not trade in synthetic goods and fake deals. Since God is not the author of sin, He couldn’t be the author of its results.* Sickness, sorrows, death, poverty, curses, failure are the results of sin.
Reasoning in the light of the new testament, we are informed that God is not the author of evil. He doesn’t work evil. He doesn’t bring evil on His children. He gives good and perfect gifts. We know this by looking unto Jesus, the express image of God. The life of Christ explains the nature and attitude of the Father. Jesus never sinned. Jesus never hated or killed anyone. He was anointed by God with Holy Spirit and power and He went about doing good and healing all that were oppressed of the devil (Acts 10:38).
Now, every good and perfect gift has a receiver in mind. The receivers are God’s children, also known as “lights”. The “lights” refers to all those who have believed in Jesus Christ. For we are called children of light (1 Thessalonians 5:5). So our God is the Father of lights, not darkness or sickness or poverty. And He has freely given us all perfect and good gifts in Christ (Romans 8:32). We are to consistently grow in the knowledge of the Son of God to fully know and enjoy every good and perfect gift from the Father. The rich grace of our Lord Jesus Christ abounds towards you always.
PRAYER
Father of lights, I thank You for insight into Your Word. You have made me the light of the world to bring solutions to the world’s problems through Jesus. Thank You for every good and perfect gift given me to shine as light of the world in Jesus Mighty Name. Amen !
