THE presence of temptation is not sin but when you succumb or fall into it. So our focal text admonishes that “be angry, and sin not”. In other words, anger will present itself, but don’t succumb to it, conquer it. Almost everyone has become angry at someone or something in one way or the other before. So how are you likely to sin when you become angry? This can happen in two basic ways. One, with your mouth (in words); and two with your actions. Thus, in your moment of anger, you may be tempted to sin through your words, thoughts and actions.
So the Bible says he who bridle his tongues will have peace. *Therefore in times of anger, do well to control your tongue and words.* As a child of God, you don’t throw out insults on those who offend you as if you are the devil’s associate. For _”A fool’s lips enter into contention, and his mouth calleth for strokes.” (Prov 18:6)._ So be very mindful of your words when you are angry. It is mostly advisable to sometimes remain silent when angry. Because, anger can fuel your words for revenge, contention, violence, strife or strokes.
The fact that you become angry doesn’t mean the Holy Spirit has left you; *So rely on God’s word and the Holy Spirit for sweet counselling for the choice of words and actions.* Also, stay away from people and environments which always fuel anger in you. Unnecessary debates and arguments should not be your lifestyle. Apostle Paul admonished the young man Timothy: _“But reject foolish and ignorant controversies, because you know they breed infighting” (2 Timothy 2:23)._ Cherished one, conquer anger; Don’t let it conquer you. Yes, you can because the Holy Spirit is your helper. The rich grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you always.
PRAYER
Lovely Father, I thank You for the wisdom in Your word. Your love is shed abroad in my heart to deal with anger at different moments. I refuse to allow anger control me. Rather, I dominate anger by the power of the Spirit. I stay with people in love and understanding in Jesus Mighty Name. Amen!
