THE Church at Corinth once faced a lot of issues as it sometimes happens in our local churches today. A particular issue happened that affected the Apostle and the Church at large (2 Cor 2:5). This person was approached, rebuked and later repented; and the Church forgave that incestuous person with the help of the Apostle (2 Cor 2:7). This attitude of forgiveness holds a great revelation. Here, he preaches forgiveness as a whole from the Church and the individual members.
The Church should not hold grudges with persons, but should freely forgive them. You too, whoever offends you, don’t stretch the person too much without forgiveness. He told us the reason for such godly attitude of forgiveness and that is “lest Satan should take advantage of us…” Satan always seeks a breeding ground to destroy someone. He always takes the leakage you give him. Another translation says “so that we may not be outsmarted by Satan”; rather we are to always outsmart him.
The Greek rendition opines “so that Satan will not make a gain of us or defraud us”._ So whenever you fall into a trap, be smart enough to rise up and get on track. Give no opportunity to the devil (Ephes 4:27). For we are not ignorant of his schemes, methods, intentions and strategies. Being so angry at your neighbour and refusing to forgive him despite his repentant heart is one method of the devil to destroy your heart with grief, offenses and bitterness. Open up your eyes and you will always outsmart the evil one; for you are the light of the world. The rich grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you always.
PRAYER
Father of lights and truth, I thank You for the enlightenment in Your unfailing word. I graciously choose to forgive anyone who has offended me. I refuse to hold grudges and bitterness in my heart against anyone. As you forgave me, I freely forgive. I refuse to give advantage to the devil. For I am not ignorant of his schemes. I outsmart every strategy of the devil in the Mighty Name of Jesus Christ. Amen !_
