STAY AWAKE AND BE SOBER

CONCERNING the Lord’s coming, we have been admonished to be ready at anytime so that the Day wouldn’t overtake us as a thief. The Spirit of the Lord through the Apostle further reveals why we shouldn’t be overtaken by the Lord’s coming. This is because we are “children of the light and children of the day. We do not belong to the night or to darkness” (1Thess 5:5). Therefore, children of the light ought to conduct, behave and act as such. Light often represents a holy enlightenment of your recreated human spirit. In other words, being a child of the Light means you have had a glorious encounter with the Light of the world, Jesus Christ; and His Spirit is living in you. Yes, you are the child of the Light not darkness.
Knowing your identity in Christ leads you to living that identity. You don’t just know your identity to talk or shout about it. This is why our focal text is unveiling to the children of the light to stay awake and be sober. Staying awake is a sign of activeness, not dormancy or sleepiness. It involves being watchful and vigilant or staying focus on the right path in the midst of a perverse generation. Thus, we can and should continuously be aroused and stirred up from sleep, awake and be alertly watchful. Being sober also implies being temperate or disciplined or circumspect in all your dealings as a child of God.
Anyone who refuses to stay awake and sober is said to be sleeping and can be overtaken by the Lord’s coming. Cherished one, God has given us some weapons to always put on to stay awake. “But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of FAITH and LOVE; and for an helmet, the HOPE of salvation” (1Thess 5:8). *In this end time, let your faith in Christ be intact; Let your love for God stay “hot” and not cold.* And never forget to walk in the hope and assurance of the Salvation. Let’s boldly denounce any “sleepiness and dormant” attitudes which fight against being watchful and sober. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you always.
PRAYER
Blessed be Your holy Name Abba Father for Your kind heart for me to stay awake and sober to enjoy the glorious fountain in You. I graciously submit to Your unfailing word which is able to help and build me up in Your will. I graciously denounce any form of sleepiness and engage in staying awake for your coming in Jesus Name. Amen!
